Data Visualisation Design

Data Visualisation Design

Veunex operates an HSE monitoring platform deployed across Oil and Gas sites in the Middle East. The data pipeline was robust. The dashboards were not usable. TWD Studios redesigned three dashboards across five drill-down levels in four weeks, transforming a data display into a decision-support system.

Visual and Interaction Standards

Standardised colour semantics: the same colour means the same thing everywhere across all dashboards. Chart type rules: the same data category uses the same chart type, no exceptions. Defined hover states, click actions, filter application, and drill-down triggers, documented and standardised. Breadcrumb logic standardised across all three dashboards. This is what enterprise UX looks like when applied to industrial data environments.

What We Did

The dashboard architecture was rebuilt around user type rather than data availability. Each of three dashboards aligned to a primary stakeholder, with a standardised five-level drill-down structure connecting overview to granular detail. Single governing UX principle: at every level, users know where they are, what they are looking at, and what they can do next, without cognitive effort. Vega-Lite was selected as the visualisation framework to eliminate the gap between design intent and development output. This is product design applied to safety-critical dashboard design.

Deliverables

Three redesigned dashboards, each aligned to a primary user type. Five drill-down levels across all dashboards, consistent architecture and navigation. Standardised colour semantics and chart type rules. Annotated wireframes. High-fidelity Figma designs. Clickable prototype. Vega-Lite aligned chart specifications. Developer handoff package. Refined and extended Veunex design system.

Outcome

Higher stakeholder engagement, users spending more time on dashboards and exploring deeper data layers. Increased drill-down activity, indicating improved user confidence and navigation trust. Development implemented without ambiguity. Scalable design foundation for future dashboards. Faster future dashboard deployment through reusable systems. Veunex had built a capable HSE monitoring platform. The dashboard design was the bottleneck. In four weeks it was not.
